Daggers
in a Teacup
Sons
of Eagle (Book One)
By Aihebholo-oria Okonoboh
Synopsis
Economic and financial crimes are Nigeria’s most
pressing problems. The anti-corruption commission, in its efforts to resolve it
has just invited Siva Okojie, a rising star in the police, to be the new
arrowhead of its investigations department.
Even though his presence in NEFCC has not brought
the immediate changes that Nigerians expected, it did bring a few positive
changes to the commission. This led to the invention of a machine, PITOC,
Public Information Tracking On Corruption. With the introduction of PITOC,
corruption and scandals were exposed to the public with platforms for them to
be participants in the campaign against it, so that no longer would the
ordinary citizen blame the agency for action or inaction.
Chief Usman Omotola, a prominent politician, died in
prison. While NEFCC thinks that it was a normal death outside its jurisdiction,
Siva Okojie thinks differently. Though Skeptical about it his Boss, Richard
Okechukwu, gave him go ahead. No sooner had he started the investigation than
he realized that some unknown people were hiding something from him.
Meanwhile, there was a government agency, LCA,
Leaders Costume Agency, that involved all the prominent citizens of the
country. Most of its members admired Siva’s role in the fight against corruption
and became his fans but not without some oppositions.
Several people were murdered during the course of
his investigation. And Siva even rejected a bribe offered him to stop the
investigation, which would have saved his life:
‘This
is a hundred million naira,’ a member of the gang explained as he widened the
bag. ‘It is yours. Each of the other four contains as much money. That means
you have five hundred million naira.’
‘Why
do I deserve to have this?’ Siva Okojie asked.
‘We
believe that you are hungry. Hunger can drive people to do terrible things. We
don’t want you to deface the beautiful memory of Usman Omotola by that
investigation. You can even resign from NEFCC after this time. Why would you
need work after having the money...?’
‘We
can make it one billion if you think this is not enough,’ the voice of the
moderator boomed across. ‘If you are afraid of how to lodge the money in the
bank without getting into trouble, we will take care of that.’
‘Do
you know that there are banking laws regulating volumes of cash transactions?’
Siva was alarmed……
Before the gang would eliminate him, a caucus and
client to the gang decided to use Siva as a tool to resolve its internal
problem of suspicion until he has no further use for them.
Although Siva realized that he was being monitored,
he keeps on his investigation until it leads him to the truth: All the problem
of the nation revolved around a simple formula called The Oil Arithmetic, a top
secret. The formula meant the nation, its government, and everything its
policies. A lot of people have died for this secret.
Siva Okojie is next to be executed by the gang. He
realizes too late that there is nobody that could save his life. The unknown enemy
he fights is more powerful than the police, the military, the air force and the
navy. His last hope rests with General Mgodo Awila, General Salisu Akpan and
Brigadier Othniel.
But how discouraging to know that the very people he
entrusted his life are the same people after it, his best friends and closest confidants,
who even put one of their sons in his care! Nobody knew his flight this morning
was HZ25N but Magodo Awila and his wife, Rose. HZ25N was sabotaged and it crashed.
Magodo and Rose have been his unknown enemies. Together with their friends,
Salisu and Othniel, nobody else in the world could save him.
But Siva refused to give up though he knew both him
and his fiancée, Agatha Nnamdi with his ward Bobosky Magodo, would ultimately
die. He was determined to defend these ones with the last of his breath.
